Some stakeholders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Zone One (Kaduna North Senatorial District) have rejected the outcome of the party’s senatorial primary election held on May 30, 2026, in which Alhaji Khalid Mustapha was declared the party’s candidate.
Speaking at a press conference in Kaduna on Saturday under the platform of the ADC Stakeholders Support Forum, Zone One, the group alleged that the primary election was not conducted in accordance with the party’s rules, guidelines, and democratic principles.
The stakeholders expressed concern over what they described as a lack of transparency, fairness, and due process, claiming that Senator Suleiman Abdu Kwari was denied the opportunity to participate in the contest despite meeting the party’s requirements.
According to the group, Senator Kwari successfully passed the party’s national screening process and was certified eligible to contest. They therefore questioned the authority under which the primary election committee excluded him from the race.
The stakeholders further argued that allegations of anti-party activities reportedly used to justify Senator Kwari’s exclusion could not legally serve as grounds for disqualification by the primary election committee. They maintained that such decisions fall within the jurisdiction of the appropriate organs of the party.
The group called on the ADC National Leadership, the National Working Committee (NWC), and the Kaduna State Executive Committee to urgently investigate the conduct of the primary election and review the complaints raised by stakeholders.
They said such action would help restore confidence among party members and strengthen internal democracy within the party.
The forum reiterated its rejection of the Kaduna North Senatorial Primary Election result and urged party authorities to take appropriate steps to ensure justice, fairness, transparency, and unity w
ithin the ADC.
